1943 – the Protests

In May 1943 the insistency and the control exercised by the German government with the active cooperation of Commissary Belev result in a new deportation plan. According to the plan the complete deportation of all 48 000 Jews from the older borders of Bulgaria was being arranged. Two versions of the plan were developed, Plan A and Plan B. Plan A provided for the immediate deportation of all 48 000 Jews. Plan B provided for the relocation of Jews from Sofia in the country. Plan B was implemented as a result of the strong public pressure.
